Your thesis statement should follow these rules:

  • Thesis Statements Should Be ARGUABLE.

Not Arguable: Heroin is bad for teenagers.

Arguable: At least 5% of the federal budget should be spent on teen drug prevention programs.

  • Thesis Statements Should Be Focused and CLEAR.

Not Clear: Drug use is detrimental to society.

Clear: Illegal drug use is detrimental to society because it encourages gang violence.
